Nether Auchendrane, South Ayrshire

Located at Nether Auchendrane, this project involves the design of contemporary single-storey extensions and the conversion of the existing garage to enhance and modernise the home. The proposals replace two existing conservatories with highly insulated extensions that improve the home’s energy efficiency, functionality, and connection to the garden.

The first extension, accessed from the kitchen, creates a generous new living space that opens directly to the garden through large sliding or bi-fold doors. A glazed gable and vaulted ceiling bring natural light deep into the room, while a wrap-around patio with an outdoor kitchen provides a strong link between indoor and outdoor living. A section of solid wall offers a backdrop for a feature fish tank, balancing the extensive glazing. Externally, the design takes on a modern aesthetic with cladding options such as zinc and slate being explored for both roof and walls.

The second extension replaces the smaller conservatory to form a new bedroom with an adjoining hobby room, future-proofed with drainage to allow conversion into an en-suite. This space also features a vaulted ceiling with a storage deck above, adding flexibility for the future.

Between the extensions, a level patio with a potential canopy will serve as a sheltered outdoor kitchen and BBQ area. The existing garage will be transformed into a music room and whisky bar, featuring new vertical windows and enhanced acoustic insulation. Together, the proposals create a cohesive, modern addition that redefines how the home connects to its setting.
