This house on Midton Road has a quiet, timeless quality. This category C listed house is full of character and small details you only really notice when you stand close. The idea behind the project was simple, make it work better for modern life without taking away what makes it special.
Most of the work centered around a new side extension and a double garage, with a few gentle alterations to the main house and its outbuildings. The old utility room and side porch were replaced with something more useful, a mix of boot room, utility space and a home office. The new structure keeps a low profile, sitting just under the original gutter line, with a flat roof and simple lines that clearly mark it as a modern addition. Around the back, corner glazing opens up the view into the garden and fills the office with soft light through the day.
The kitchen now opens straight onto the terrace through new bi-folding doors. These are framed with smooth banding that picks up the language of the original façade. Nothing shouts for attention, it’s all about balance, light, and a sense of calm continuity.
